Mark Loram

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mark Roysten Gregory Loram (born January 10, 1971 in Malta) is a British motorcycle speedway rider. He is a former World Speedway Champion. In March 2007 Mark broke his leg and dislocated his arm whilst riding in the opening fixture of the British Elite League season for the Ipswich Witches. This ended his involvement in the sport for 2007, and placed his participation in doubt for 2008.

[edit] Career honours

In 1999 Mark became the first rider in Speedway Grand Prix history to win a GP whilst being entered as a wild card, a feat only repeated twice since (as at the end of the 2007 season). He became World Champion in 2000 despite not winning any Grand Prix meetings in that season. However he was the only rider to reach the semi-finals in all six meetings which was enough to secure his first and only world title. Mark has also been British Champion three times, in 1997, 1999 and 2001.

He is currently unable to ride due to injury.
