Mark Boyd is an English footballer currently playing for Barrow AFC.

He joined the club in January 2008, having become unhappy playing in Ireland at Sligo Rovers.

Mark began his career with in Newcastle United youth team coming through the ranks before leaving on a free transfer to League One side Port Vale. His career at Port Vale started well another as he proved he had potential in the centre of the park with some good passing and a few assists. His best form for Vale came midway through the 2002-03 campaign when he scored all his 4 goals for the club in a relatively short space of time and held down a regular centre midfield starting place, the highlight an MOTM display and 2 cracking goals in a 5-2 win over Chesterfield. Unfortunately he suffered a broken ankle with a couple of months of the season remaining. Boyd never really forced his way back into the reckoning the following season in what was a pretty good year for Port Vale who were challenging for the playoffs in League One and he was released by mutual consent to join Carlisle United for the last month or 2 of the season.

For the next 2 seasons Boyd could not forge a longer term deal with a club and ended up playing bit part roles for Carlisle, Macclesfield Town, Gretna F.C. and finally Accrington Stanley before eventually signing for Conference side Southport before the 2006-07 campaign.

His Southport career began disappointingly with a missed penalty in the team's first game of the season, Mark had settled in well at the club and began to silence the doubters who would maybe prefer a more "all action" player in the team. As the club captain, "Boydy" developed a reputation as an excellent passer of the ball with an excellent first touch. However there were questions about his fitness and he moved in 2007 to Sligo Rovers in Ireland. This move did not work out and by 2008 he was back in England with Barrow AFC of the Conference North. In May 2008, Barrow - inspired by "Boydy's" brilliant passing game - beat Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 to gain promotion back to the Conference via the Conference North play-offs.
