Markíza is the leading private television station in Slovakia. Shortly after its launch on 31st August 1996, it became the most watched TV channel in Slovakia and retains this position until today. Formerly, it was owned by the politician Pavol Rusko. It is currently part of CME network and the CEO is Václav Mika.

At the time Pavol Rusko was co-owner of TV, Markíza's news were accused of having bias against Rusko's political opponents, and favouring Rusko, respectively his political party Alliance of the New Citizen.
