Mario Alvarez

Mario Adolfo Alvarez (born March 26, 1984 in La Caoba, Dominican Republic) is a pitcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Alvarez originally signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an undrafted free agent on January 16, 2003 and made his professional debut in 2004 for the Santo Domingo Dodgers in the Dominican Summer League. He posted a 4-3 record with a 1.24 ERA in 13 game and held opponents to a .176 batting average.

In 2005, Alvarez pitched for the Rookie League Ogden Raptors. In 12 starts, he had a 3-3 record with an ERA of 6.14. Alvarez played for the Single-A Columbus Catfish in 2006, going 7-10 with a 5.68 ERA.

In 2007, while pitching for the Single-A Inland Empire 66ers, Alvarez once again had a 7-10 record and had a 5.60 ERA.

On November 20, 2007, Alvarez's contract was purchased by the Dodgers, protecting him from the Rule 5 draft. He started the 2008 season playing for the Double-A Jacksonville Suns.
