Marie C. Brehm

Suffragette Marie Caroline Brehm was the first legally qualified female candidate to run for the vice-presidency of the United States, which she did in 1924 on the ticket of the Prohibition Party running with Herman P. Faris. Miss Brehm was also very active in promoting the temperance movement through her work for the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). She served as Superintendent of Franchise of the national WCTU and California State Superintendent of WCTU Institutes. She had also served as the first vice-president of the Woman’s Legislative Council of California.
