Maria Teresa Fumarola Ligorio (San Marzano di San Giuseppe, Taranto, Puglia, December 2, 1889 - Fragagnano, May 14, 2003)[citation needed] was an Italian supercentenarian and their first resident to reach the verified age of 113.[citation needed] Maria remained the oldest Italian ever until June 6, 2005, when she was superseded by Virginia Dighero-Zolezzi, who died at age 114.[citation needed]
Maria married Donato Ligorio, and had ten children.[citation needed]
She died in a small town near Taranto.[citation needed] At the time of her death, Maria was the oldest living European resident and one of the 100 oldest verified people in the world ever until August 24, 2007, when she was passed by American Arbella Ewing.[citation needed]
