Maria Barnas

Maria Barnas (born 1973) is a Dutch writer, poet and artist.
She has written two novels, Ice Angels (1997) and The bather (2000). She has also written a book of poetry, Two suns (De Arbeiderspers, 2003) which was awarded the Dutch prize for the best poetry debut 2003. She has written for theatre and has written a libretto for a chamber music piece called ‘The Piano Lake’. Barnas writes articles on art and poetry for newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Her art has been shown at Fons Welters (Amsterdam) Galerie du Jour (Paris) and Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam).
She is currently a resident at the American Academy in Rome.
