Marcus Nispel

Marcus Nispel is a German film director, who was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1964. When he was 20 he went to America and founded his production company Portfolio Artists Network. He is fairly well known for his music videos, most notably for DJ Bobo, Janet Jackson, the Spice Girls, Puff Daddy, Faith No More, Simply Red, Wild Orchid, Bush, Elton John, Mylene Farmer and No Doubt. To date he created over 1000 commercials and video clips for AT&T, Coca-Cola, Kodak, Levi's, Mercedes, Nike, Panasonic, Pepsi, UPS and so on.
He has been nominated twelve times for the MTV Video Music Award and won four times, for example the MTV Europe Music Award in 1993 for George Michael's "Killer/Papa was a Rolling Stone". Nispel was awarded two Billboard awards and he received the MVPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
He also directed the remake of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003. Michael Bay produced it with him.
Other works include a TV movie originally intended as a pilot for the USA network entitled Frankenstein from 2004 as well as the action/adventure film Pathfinder (2007) based on the graphic novel of the same name and a remake of the Oscar nominated Norwegian film Ofelas or Veiviserenas it's also known.

In June 2005, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to Alice, an adaption of the computer game American McGee's Alice. The studio attached Nispel to direct with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role. According to the IMDb, the movie is set for a 2009 release.

In interviews Nispel has said he is also developing a psychological thriller/drama in the vein of Last Tango in Paris. It is set to star Diane Lane and in his own words, "it's a love story, but it's a love story with an uncomfortable edge."

In November 2007, it was announced that Nispel has been hired to direct the remake of Friday the 13th.[1]
