Marconia is a small community in the region of Basilicata, Italy with about 13,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Province of Matera and is considered a "frazione," or administrative district, of the nearby city of Pisticci. Marconia is located a few kilometers from the Gulf of Taranto on a coastal plain.
Marconia is a newer town by Italian standards, having been settled in the World War II period. Most of the town's inhabitants relocated from the older community of Pisticci.
Marconia is named for Guglielmo Marconi, a famous 20th century Italian credited with inventing wireless communications (radio).
