This is a picture taken of the Marincello gates in 1968. Marincello Boulevard was constructed directly behind these gates, which would have carried traffic up the hill to the city. The gates were eventually torn down in 1976, well after the development plan was defeated. To see what this area looks like in 2007, this picture was taken in the same exact spot:
