IMPORTANT IRELAND IS PAINTED BECAUSE THERE DID EXIST AN ATTEMP TO IVADE IT, EVEN IF IT DIDN'T WORK. cyan means that the conquered land was never a roman province because of
- local resistance (Germany, Ireland, west Hungary)
- possiblity of external invasions if romans tried to romanize (southern Moldavia)
pink means that the territory was abandoned because of the difficulties to keep it (Sahara and Arab deserts, and the nowdays Iran)

- There was a notion that Ireland be invaded and conquered, but no attempt was ever made. There is sparse evidence of Roman influence/contacts in Ireland, but that suggests nothing more than a trading relationship. Shtove.--80.6.163.58 20:28, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
