Dear David... that is Manuel R. Agrella in the flesh. He is 74+ now and can probably out-pace the most hardened martial artist. He runs 5 classes per day. I know this because I stayed at his house for a couple of weekends. He celebrated his 73 birthday a couple of years ago. If you do decide to study with him...well let me explain.

He has students who have studied with him for over 25 years who don't know a lick of what he has to offer.

A case in point. I hosted him here once and finally got him to open up. At first he was going to teach some basic self defense. Then he put on a show no one would forget. He asked someone to grab him. Mind you this gentleman was 6'4" and a martial artists since 1968 and solid. What happened next was astonishing to GM Agrella's students. Without hardly moving, the Martial Artists awaited the usual technique when all of a sudden he grabbed his chest, dropped to the floor, and began to pant. GM Agrella looked up at me and said "That was for you Zhisou" and walked away. The man slowly got up with the assistance of a few others. GM Agrella then said contemptuously... "you never saw that before did you?" as he pointed to all the 5th-8th Duans he had with him. I beleive that was the first and last time they ever saw anything like that. Ask Tom Ferrera (tomferrara1@yahoo.com) who is one of his closest students. Even Tom hasn't learned this level of martial arts and was there when he saw him do this. (It really upset him that Gosci was holding out) GM Agrella refuses to teach his students any of the internal arts because he has come to the conclusion that they are a) afraid or b) don't deserve said information. I must agree haven't met all his to-de.

If you live close to him, you are crazy not to study with him! He is a living historical figure and was around when there were only a handful of martial artists in the States. Most people do not know that it was people like him that the average martial arts teacher went to for further knowledge (so that they could find something to teach after black belt to their students). I know because some of my teachers attemtped the same. As most martial artists will tell or hint at...they cross-train after black belt because they feel inadaquate. (Unless they have a huge ego and fool themselves.) At any rate. Ask him about meditation, the Truth, etc not about techniques or that is what you'll get.

At any rate I wanted confirm who you met.

May you get some of what you want and everything you need. Timor Khan --66.82.9.74 19:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I just ran into someone in Starbucks in Rockville, MD who gave me his business card with the following info:

Amoeba, Violence Management, Mauel Agrella.

Interesting individual, I would have thought late 60's or more, is a writer and teaches writing. Grey hair in a pony-tail, rather lean, and did have a certain grace when moving... Several tattoos on his arms...

Wonder if this is the same individual?

Actually I believe this is him, I found this link: http://www.scottish-jujitsu.com/Biographs/manuel_agrella.htm that has a picture of the man I was talking with...

Irina: I was his student some time ago. I took the self defense and shooting classes.
The man is fool of energy and ideas.
