Mantua Township is the hometown of internet rap sensation V3rbal KillaH. V3rbal is infamous for having a prank pulled on him in which he and his rap partner LIL RICE auditioned for a kids birthday party. The hosts of the prank made various hilarious requests of V3rbal, such as that he audition on their picnic table and sing a freestyle version of the happy birthday song. The real funny moments of the prank however were where V3rbal was just doing his own thing, and embaressing himself with his less than stellar memory and awful freestyle skillz. The clip however did launch V3rbal to a small bit of success and he is currently in the production phases of a new album, in which V3rbal intends to win back his reputation and "show all dem haters". [edit] DRUGS and CRIME
By far the worst drug to hit the streets in the last century is heroin. At last count I beleive that some 25% of the 1996-97 graduating class from Clearview Regional High School have tried or been addicted to it. I don't know why but the use of heroin or "dope" as it is called around here, is becoming easier to obtain and I beleive it falls on the school system to let the kids know that it really isn't like anything they may have "experimented" with. When I was in school it was called "experimenting" but the withdrawl symptoms were somewhat read off to us like it was a cold or flu like feeling that goes away in a week. It is not and the kids need to know that.
The crimes that are commonly associated with drugs and especially Heroin are robberies, shoplifting, and breaking and entering. It is amasing what will sell on the streets of Camden, Philadelphia, Trenton, and Newark. Anything from Unopened cans of baby formula that go for $15-20 in the retail stores will sell for $5-10 on the streets of Camden. DVD's are a popular draw in the "corner stores". One persone I talked with said that she could get a "list" of movies from a certain store, go to the local Wal-Mart or K-Mart find the movies, put them into a paper bag lined with aluminum foil, close the bag up and walk right out of the store and that the security alarms would not go off. I have not researched that but I believe in some cases it might work. "The people may have a bit of luck with stealing from my store but eventually I will catch them. That is when what they have been doing will catch up with them also. We may not catch you the first, second,or third time but we will be filming and building a case up and when you do go down, you go down hard." The person that told me this was a former security worker at the retail store K-Mart. He no longer is employed by him but he told me that a good 75% or the shoplifters addmitted to him that they had a Heroin addiction or a "habit" as they explained.
Local law enforcement seems to know the suspects and tries to keep a watchfull eye on them. They don't have a big budget and can't be everywhere all the time, but they do just enough that it doesn't look like the middle of Philadelphia or Camden, yet. My name is Dan S. and I am a addict. I have fought my demons for the better part of 15 years. I can't tell you that I was successfull even half the time but I try. I write this in here becouse for me right now this is the biggest media outlet that I have without taking out an ad. I hope that if you read this and you have children or brothers or sisters around that age where experimentation is possible, look for the signs and keep them close.
When you use heroin you often "nod out" like falling asleep sitting up. The pupils of the eye will look like the head of a pin. You will sweat and skin is warm to the touch. Withdrawl symptons include, nasuea, vomitting, clammy skin, watering eyes, and cramping muscles. There are a number of detoxes and rehabilitation clinics available in the area. Maryville is just one of them and they are located just 20 mins from Mantua. Find help immediately bacause once it has you hooked you are hooked for life. Some 85% of people that go into treatment for Heroin addiction relapse within the first year or completing the program, so do not give up on them right away. I am not telling you to fund their habits but give support.
