[edit] Neutrality of the article

The majority of this article is neutral however there are some points that need to be raised. Sentences such as "The origins of the Museum lie in the great quest for knowledge and improvement in medicine, science and art that has been the hallmark of the world’s first industrial city" are definitly not neutral. It sounds almost like a fairytale with "great quest for..." and an unsourced statement "world's first industrial city" - a statement which is highly disputed. Now, I don't think this should be removed from the article however I think it needs to be rewritten so that it is neutral. Any suggestions? - Erebus555 15:05, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I agee, it certainly needs toning down. Manchester says: "Manchester is historically notable for being the world's first industrialised city, and the subsequent central role it played during the Industrial Revolution. " Is there any dispute about that? Of course it all depends on what you mean by industrial and city so it could certainly be qualified. Perhaps you could point to a good source for the debate about the claims to "birthplace of the insustrial revolution" and "first industrial city" claimants. Actually I think "great quest for knowledge and improvement in medicine, science" (I don't see it for arts) does characterise quite well what was going on on Manchester during the 1800s, Dalton, Whitworth, Stephenson, Engl, etc etc. Billlion 16:30, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I have no problem with "great quest for knowledge and improvement in medicine, science" however it just sounds a little like a quote from a fairy tale. I am unaware of any discussion about the world's first industrialized city statement however it may be useful if a source which can support this was used. The sentence in the Manchester article also is unsourced and I will flag this up. - Erebus555 17:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

The "great quest for knowledge" statement sounds more like marketing blurb, and doesn't appear to add anything factual to the article. Also, it looks to me like it's been copied from somewhere else (here, perhaps?) So I'm going to remove it. No problem with removing the neutrality tag though, most of the article is OK. --David Edgar 11:18, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
