Mansion stage

A mansion stage is a stage for theatrical performances. The name originated in churches where they were small wooden platforms with supports and a roof. Mansion stages were used to explain Bible stories. Later they were decorated appropriately for the story; for example, a play about Hell would have the stage looking like the inside of a monster's mouth, and a play about Noah's Ark would have the stage looking like the Ark.
When theatre is performed on a mansion stage it is called a cycle drama.
