Mankiala stupa lies beside Mankiala village 27 kilometres south of Rawalpindi city, just 2 kilometres from the Grand Trunk Road. It is famous for its ruined stupa or tope. The name Mankiala is said to be derived from Raja Man or Manik who built the stupa that lies to the south of Mankiala village.
Mankiala stupa was built on the legend of Buddha's offering of his body to seven hungry tiger cubs. In the 1930s some caskets, 7th and 8th century gold, silver and copper coins and inscriptions were found in the stupa.
According to an inscription on a stone the stupa was restored in 1891 by the British. It is situated on a commanding place, green and plain fields around rare in Pothohar plateau.
