The "Lobster," Danilo Mangini's prototype portable electronic device, is a unique armband-construction device. It allows the user to interchange and supplement additional hardware accessories, each enabling a new function. The unit focuses around a central LCD screen unit. Mangini, a member of Italian-based design firm Design+Wave, describes the unit on the firm's website:
Lobster is composed by a modulus base, which has only the function to call and send SMS, and plus additional modulus (Mp3, hard disk, cardiofrequecimeter, GPS etc) differenting the product. Those modulus can also be used alone, but only with the base unit they have the greatest performance (ex. the photo modulus used with the base modulus have the lcd monitor too). This product is directed to every target. The single elements are characterized by a raised icons, that when are on have a 3D effect.Design+Wave
The unit is also reviewed by Gizmodo, an online electronics and technology magazine, in a recent article.
