The Scourge Project

Why on Earth did you delete that The Scourge Project game stub? Stubs are supposed to be expanded, not deleted. The Scourge Project is an existing project that is referenced by every major game reviewing site. It's been officially announced by Tragnarion Studios and the page had nothing to do with speculation. Moreover, what moral ground do you have to discard the efforts of other users without any consideration? I am seriously questioning your judgment on this one, especially considering the resulting unavailability of the revision history tab. Rankiri (talk) 03:04, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

The article The Scourge Project was tagged with the template {{prod}}, which is a request for an article to be uncontroversially deleted. After a PROD tag is on an article for 5 days, an article can be deleted without further notice. The Scourge Project had this tag on it for five days, and because nobody objected to its deletion by removing [1], I deleted it. This is perfectly within policy. Though the game has been oficially announced, it is still not notable per WP:CRYSTAL. Though a lot of work may have been put into it, it is still deletable per WP:EFFORT. If you still disagree with the deletion of the article, then see WP:DRV. Thank you, Malinaccier Public (talk) 12:33, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I'll admit that you acted in accordance with the expired prod deletion guidelines, however, I would still like to contest the validity of the original {{prod}} request and [informally] apply for undeletion of the stub. It is my understanding that WP:CRYSTAL refers to unverifiable information. The information on existence of that project may be scarce, but it is most certainly not unverifiable or speculative in nature.

I have little personal interest in that particular page - frankly, I spent mere minutes of my own time on it, - but I just don't see how it is different from any other unreleased projects that have their own pages on Wikipedia. Just a couple of examples off the top of my head: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Indiana Jones 4 (2008), Red Alert 3, StarCraft II, Windows 7... the list can go on and on. BioShock 2 in particular has a page that is nearly indistinguishable from the one you deleted. Should {{prod}} be applied to it too, as well as to all underdeveloped stubs in general? I'd like you to shed some light on this confusion if possible. Rankiri (talk) 17:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
If you can provide references, and a specific release date (rather than "Later this year") I will allow the page to be recreated. I will create a page for you to work on it here. Best of luck =)! Malinaccier (talk) 23:08, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Very well, then. I'll try to add some details to the page when I have the time, and I hope you'll take a quick pause and consider some of the points I've made should a similar situation ever arise in the future. Take care. Rankiri (talk) 00:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Malinaccier. User talk:216.157.209.48 has returned from your block and resumed vandalism. Thought you might want to take a look at the edit history of Amelia Bloomer. Thanks. Gwguffey (talk) 18:17, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Size of WP:AWC

I'll get right on that. Most of the extraneous stuff is a holdover from the days when User:The_Transhumanist ran the Award Center. It was recently "given" to me a few weeks ago and I am still in the process of making it my own. I shall delete all completed task section, as well as the section on award recipients. --Sharkface217 23:49, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to cut sections that are fully completed. If you have the time, I'm currently looking for a few other people to help me manage the Awards Center, as it is currently getting to be a bit much for me to handle on my own. --Sharkface217 23:55, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Holy carp! Good job on cutting out stuff from WP:AWC. I pass out for an hour and a half (1 full, restful sleep cycle) and all this work is done. Thanks a ton! --Sharkface217 02:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
All the same, I'm incredibly grateful for your service. Thank you. If you feel the desire to contribute more to WP:AWC, more challenges are always welcome. --Sharkface217 20:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Louis Bazin

Anything still wrong with Louis Bazin? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 22:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)\

If you are making a reference to the things like "Ecole Normale Superieure de la rue d'Ulm," this is correct because it is a proper noun, therefore it is literally the name of the place. I have changed "National School of Oriental Languages Alive) to the proper French noun, but otherwise the article appears correct. Malinaccier (talk) 01:05, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

AIV comment template

Hello, I'm not sure if you know me or not :) I recently created a template for AIV, I feel it could be useful though. Its Template:AIV comment. It can be substituited in as well. What do you think of it?Steve Crossin (talk to me) 17:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I will propose the template to AIV talk page at some point. However, it still has some bugs. When I tried to post a diff into it, it didn't display correctly. At all. Does the template need tweaking in order to be able to do that? Steve Crossin (talk to me) 18:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Great, it works perfectly now. Thanks a lot. Just wondering, would you use the template? :P I've used it a little bit myself, but should I wait till consensus agrees to adopting the template, or am I OK to use it myself for now? Steve Crossin (talk to me) 18:16, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, I cannot thank you enough for this. I have been vandalized many times, but nothing has even come close to that guy. As far as I can remember , that is the first time a vandalism on my userspace actually disturbed me. J.delanoygabsadds 01:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I have like 130 vandalisms altogether across my userspace, but I don't get my pages semi-protected because I think that almost seems like letting the vandals win. (they'll think "He got me blocked, but he's too much of a coward to let me fight back") Besides, I've reverted the Genesis Vandal a few times and got "struck" by him, and semi-protection wouldn't help there, and I can't fully protect my page because then I couldnt edit my own userpage. Even so, if I get hit by people like that guy (but not him), I will definitely think seriously about requesting protection for my userpage... I don't know why that bothered me so much, but it did. J.delanoygabsadds 01:28, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I took so long to reply, I was looking for this, which I replied when I was asked why I don't get my userspace semi-protected.:
Yeah, I know, but in my mind, protecting my userpage does two things:
  1. It lets the vandals win—"He warned me but he's scared I'll fight back, so he has his userpage protected."
  2. It lets the vandals let out steam.—"I got blocked, but I sure told him off..." Since I don't care what vandals think about me, I just let them spew off. If my page was protected, the vandal's anger could build up and they could turn themselves into another Hitler. I know that's probably a stretch, but you never know.

The reason I have all that crap on my userpage is to force vandals to work if they want to vandalize my userpage unobtrusively. Unless you know HTML and wikimarkup fairly well, you will not be able to figure out what is going on with my userpage. So basically, the only thing they can do is blank the page and/or add content that will be obviously out of place. Or they can add stuff to that banner, which I could quote to you in my sleep...

I hope that explains my reasoning. I do, however, always give vandals a final warning after they vandalize my userspace. Do you think that is being vindicative or retaliatory? Or is a legitimate defense of my personal reputation and honor?
lol! I know what you mean. I actually got a hate article, J. delanoy (EDIT: yes, the space is supposed to be there/EDIT)(I don't know if the deleted text is still there, if you're interested, I can email it to you–it is quite amusing) a few weeks ago and I got another admin to show me the text. (I was asleep when the article was created, so I didn't see it before it was summarily eradicated) It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I am doing my job so well that someone would actually take the time to make such a detailed hate page for me. *sniff* I'm just so sentimental.... :P J.delanoygabsadds 01:58, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, check your email.... J.delanoygabsadds 02:07, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
I certainly think it's a shame he only used his talents to disparage me. Just a question: Do you know if an admin can be throttled while using rollback? J.delanoygabsadds 02:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
No, I mean that if I do too many rollbacks in a short period of time, like when I am rolling back all of a repeat vandal's contributions vandalisms it comes up with a page that says something like "Action Throttled Your action has been throttled as an anti-spam measure for making too many edits in a short period of time. Please wait a few moments before trying again" Does that ever happen to admins? J.delanoygabsadds 02:30, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
ROFL. Sorry for not being clear on that. :-D J.delanoygabsadds 02:34, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
BTW, can you move-protect my userpage and talk page? I am just picturing a vandal moving it to some random page, then a novice vandal-fighter moving it back to the wrong place, and me having to file a request to get my userpage back in the right place because of the "no moving pages over an edited redirect" or whatever it is. J.delanoygabsadds 02:39, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. So, does move-protection not apply to the owner of a userpage? I'm confused because the "move" link is still there. J.delanoygabsadds 02:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah. I sometimes revert vandalism on semi-protected pages, and I can't think of there is no reason for my userpage to be moved. If I ever do need it moved, I can ask an admin to do it for me. J.delanoygabsadds 02:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again. Here's a little something else in addition to the "thank you"...
The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
For reverting vandalism on my userpage, blocking the vandal, laughing at my hate page along with me, offering to semi-protect my userpage, answering my questions, move-protecting my userpage on my request, re-move-protecting my userpage so that only sysops can move it, spending the better part of an hour talking to me... (need I go on?) I, J.delanoygabsadds, humbly award you this barnstar with many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many thanks. (count the many's. Then count the reasons I gave for awarding this barnstar...)J.delanoygabsadds 03:00, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Four phase system

Hi Malinaccier! On this page you state you are currently full up but may be willing to take on extras. I have come to you (to be very cheeky = ) ) and ask whether you would be willing to take me on. I have been wanting to take part in admin coaching for a while now. However I am rather fussy: I would prefer to be coached by somebody I see around a lot (and thus am familiar with, even if we have never actually contacted each other) and somebody who uses your delightful four phase system (which I have reviewed and fallen in love with!). I have also checked your check list and believe to be able to answer most of the requirements affirmatively. If you are not able to take me on I will fully understand (most coaches do not take on four students at a time let a lone five!). However I would ask you to recommend another (free) coach, who (if possible) also uses the four phase system. Thanks in advance --Cameron (t|p|c) 14:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

It is enabled now. Thanks I shall look forward to it...= ) --Cameron (t|p|c) 18:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
PS:So sorry, I only just saw all the above requests for coaching. I wouldnt have asked had I seen them prior to my post. What must you think of my manners = )...--Cameron (t|p|c) 19:13, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Joins the queue* (I think they are called lines in USA!?!)...In other words: I choose Option one if the offer still stands, thanks! I have great respect for the other admin you named and see them around a lot but I am willing to wait a while. Thanks for the offer of co-nomming but it looks like you will be nominator number one (depending on whether I pass!). Thanks again, --Cameron (t|p|c) 11:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow brilliant, I will watch your students' progress eagerly! --Cameron (t|p|c) 12:04, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, that's clever. Maybe I might filch a few questions from your four-phase system. Definitely an improvement over what I made you go through! bibliomaniac15 Hey you! Stop lazing around and help fix this article instead! 23:52, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Would you oblige my tedious questions?

Sorry I am just so excited already! I have a few questions for you:

  • Is there anything I could prepare for already?
  • How long does your training course usually take?
  • Do you have a co-coach? If so who is he/she?
  • Should I have a specific edit count before starting the programme?

Thanks so much! --Cameron (t|p|c) 22:15, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I thought you might not be feeling well when I saw that you didnt have any contribs since 11 April. Get well soon! Thanks so much for the answers...I believe I have all the requirements but will try to do some work at new page patrol anyway. Thanks again! --Cameron (t|p|c) 12:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

My Future RfA

Hello! A week or so ago, I said that I would be giving you a formal response on whether I will be having an RfA some time in the near future. Here it is. My official answer is: not quite yet. In the past few days, I have made some calls in nominating articles for deletion that the community believes are incorrect. As deletions are the main thing that I would probably work with as an admin, I feel that it is best not to submit a new RfA until my deletion requests become more in line with the community's consensus. As an admin's views on deletion should be similar to the community consensus, I therefore probably should not be making calls on whether an article should be deleted or not at this time. In short, I think it is best for me to wait a few months until my next RfA. I would like you to nominate me when I feel ready in the future. I hope that you can do that. :) Thanks! Captain panda 01:05, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

My RFA has closed

My RFA that you weighed in on earlier has closed as no consensus to promote, at a final tally of 120/47/13. I thank you for your feedback and comments there, and I'm going to be considering all the various advice and comments presented. I might end up at RFA again some day, or not. If you see me there again in the future, perhaps you might consider a Support !vote. If not, not, and no hard feelings. The pen is still mightier than the mop! See you around, and thanks again. I'm extremely grateful for all the the kind comments from so many brilliant Wikipedians I've come to respect and admire, as well as many others I've not yet had the pleasure of working with, and I'll do my best to put my shiny new mop and bucket to good use! Once again, thank you ;)
