The Maltese Second Division (also known as the Bank of Valletta Second Division) is the third-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The league has been running for many years.

Each season, there are 12 teams participating. The two top teams are promoted to the second-highest Maltese division, the Maltese First Division, while the two lowest-finishing teams are relegated to the Maltese Third Division. The third lowest finishing team must face a play-off group with the teams finishing third to fifth in the Maltese Third Division. Each team plays each other once, and the overall winner of the group will compete in the Second Division the following season. The 2007-08 winner were San Gwann who finished 1st with 47 points. In the 2007-08 season Balzan and Rabat finished second both level on points and a decider had to be played.Rabat won 3-0. Sirens were relegated alongside Zurrieq. Mgarr had to play in Relegation Playoffs. They won the final and therefore remain in the 2nd Division.
