Malice Aforethought is an ITV drama based on Anthony Berkeley Cox’s 1931 novel of the same name.
[edit] Synopsis
Set in the picturesque village of Wyvern’s Cross, the story centres around the charming Dr. Edmund Bickleigh and his unhappy marriage to overbearing wife Julia.
The good doctor has outside interests to help him cope: many of the town's female population seems to have had intimate relations with him. He puts aside his current mistress, Ivy Ridgeway, in favor of the new arrival in town, Madeleine Cranmere. She becomes involved romantically with Edmund, but refuses to marry a divorcee. Edmund is left with no other recourse, and begins to contemplate his wife’s demise. He puts in place a plan to become free to remarry -- after all he has a cabinet full of lethal drugs on hand. A classic tale of infatuation, revenge, obsession and the scandalous business of murder.
