Malachy McGurran

Malachy McGurran (d. 1979) was a leading republican and founding member of the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association.

A native of Lurgan, Co. Armagh, McGurran was a member of the Irish Republican movement from an early age and a prominent member of Republican Clubs which was the name adopted by Sinn Féin (Official) in Northern Ireland after it was banned in 1964. McGurran was a popular local elected councilor in Lurgan and polled over 5,000 first preferences as a Republican Clubs candidate in the 1974 Westminster general election.^[1]

Malachy McGurran was a Vice-President of Official Sinn Féin when he died of cancer in 1979 while still in his 40s.
