Majorcan cartographic school

The Majorcan cartographic school was a map making school in Majorca. It was influenced by Arabic and Jewish scholars. The maps produced by the school are characterized by their lavish, vividly colored illustrations. The maps feature place names, drawings of topographical details such as mountains, rivers, lakes, major cities, ports or inland towns and famous people. They also feature keys and explanatory notes written in Latin. The portolan chart created by Angelino Dulcert includes more information about Africa and Northern Europe, moving the center of focus away from the Mediterranean.
