Maitree Wickramasinghe

Maithree Wickramasinghe is a leading Sri Lankan academic and senior lecturer at the Department of English of the University of Kelaniya and wife of Ranil Wickremasinghe former Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. She is also a visiting lecturer on gender and women's studies at other educational institutions including the at the University of Colombo.

The only child of the late Senevi B. Wickremasinghe and Shiranee Wickremasinghe (nee Bandaratilaka) of Nawala, Koswatte. She graduated King’s College, University of London with a honours degree in the English and went on to complete her Masters in Women’s Studies at the University of Colombo. She had gained her doctorate from the Institute of Education, University of London specializing on feminist research methodology in Sri Lanka. In 2000 she married Ranil Wickremasinghe.
