WikiProject Echo has identified Mahadevi Varma as a foreign language featured article. You may be able to improve this article with information from the Hindi language Wikipedia.

From what I've read in her books Mahadevi Verma was not unsuccessful in becoming a Buddhist monk. She apparently visited Sarnath where a Sri Lankan monk was ordaining Indians but changed her mind when the monk refused to look at her directly (because she was a woman and he had taken an oath of chastity). She considered that an insult to womankind and decided against becoming a monk.

Are you absolutely sure about this? If yes, be bold and add this to the article. I just read somewhere that she was asafal in becoming a bhikkuni, so I wrote it here. utcursch 06:25, Dec 30, 2004 (UTC)
