Magnetic accelerator gun

Often in science fiction, a magnetic accelerator gun (MAG) is a general term for any weapon that converts magnetic energy, rather than the more conventional chemical energy, into kinetic energy for a projectile. Variations include but are not limited to:-

• Coilguns
• Mass drivers
• Railguns.
• Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System

A larger version is sometimes called a magnetic accelerator cannon, or MAC.
