"Magischer Realismus" is taken from the German and meaning "magic realism". The term is applied to a movement that started in Munich and had strong connections with the Italian "pittura metafiscia" and "novecento". Although subjects were painted realistically, the way in which they were arranged gave an air of "magic" to them. "Magischer realismus" was once defined as the Surrealism of the "poor man". The movement was started as a result of the influence of the "Neue Sachlichkeit", a movement started as an objection to Expressionism in 1925 in Germany.
