Why is this painting part of the surrealist movement?
Apparently, the text says, "This is not a pipe." I suppose that's what makes it surreal. --Yeah, so surreal. I'm quaking.
But it's not a pipe, it's a painting of a pipe, so the statement "This is not a pipe" stands true.
I just saw this painting at the Menil Collection in Houston along with several of his other works such as Galconde--and yet the page says this painting is in the LACMA in Los Angeles. These paintings have been at the Menil for at least a year and a half. I've been twice and saw the Magritte paintings both times.
