[edit] Introduction
Shri Madhva Kanva Mutt is on of the 24 mutts of the Madhva Sampradaya and is headquartered in Hunasihole, Surapura Taluk, Gulbarga District, Karnataka. Shri Madhva Kanva Mutt was started specifically for Sukla Yajurveda students. This mutt was started by Shirur Mutt pontiff (swamiji) Shri Lakshmimanohara Theertharu in 1766 during Magha Masa (March). Shri Lakshmimanohara Theertharu gave dikshe (pontificate) to Shri Venkateshacharya and rechristened him as Shri Maadhava Theertha, and named the mutt as `Shri Kanva Mutt'. He gave Madhva karaarchita Shri Vittalakrishna Idol as Mutt's main deity. He also presented the Idols of Shri Krishna, Rukmini Satyabhama sameta sri Santhaana gopaalakrishna, Panduranga vittala, along with balamuri shankha, mudra etc and blessed Shri Maadhavatheertharu to propagate Shree Shukla Yajurveda and bless its followers. The Mutts Sampradaaya is Maadhva but the Mutt has the Unique place of having followers (shishyaas) who practice all three schools of achaaryas viz Dwaita, Adwaita and Vishistaadhwaita. This is the Only Mutt Identified in the name of Veda and thus called Veda Mutta.
