Madeline in America and Other Holiday Tales

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Madeline in America and Other Holiday Tales is an illustrated collection of short stories by Ludwig Bemelmans, (April 27, 1898-October 1, 1962), with only one of the stories featuring the popular children's character Madeline. This collection was first published in 1999 and features stories previously published in other publications, with artwork by Ludwig Bemelmans' grandson, John Bemelmans Marciano . The Madeline story is based on an unfinished but detailed storyboard arrangement,(possibly a discarded project), which included narrative and some original sketchwork by Ludwig Bemelmans (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA167593.html?q=madeline%27s+christmas ). Ludwig's grandson John Bemelmans Marciano completed artwork for the project.

The original story for Madeline in America was reportedly made by Lugwig Bemelmans as a Christmas story for his friend, Stanley Marcus, who owned the famous department store Neiman-Marcus. Copies of this story were handed out to customers. (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA167345.html )
