[edit] Fair use in Charles Williams (U.S. author)
The image linked here is claimed by Wikipedia editor DCGeist to be used under fair use as:
- it is a portion of a single screenshot from a commercially released feature-length film;
- it is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality);
- its use does not infringe on the copyright holder's ability to sell or promote the film in any way;
- the photo is only being used for informational purposes; and
- its inclusion adds significantly to the article because, as detailed in the article's text, it illustrates one of the best known of the many films based on the author's work and instructively demonstrates how the image of femininity conveyed in the author's novels and by their book covers was brought to the screen.
[edit] Licensing
This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
