==Description== The works of medieval artists are littered with heretical signs and the paintings of the Italian artist Carlo Crivelli is no exception. In this painting of the ‘MADONNA AND CHILD’, she is portrayed leaning against a parapet or wall and Jesus is sat on a cushion on the wall. The wall has an obvious crack which some claim to represent the crumbling support for the orthodox doctrine of the Church of Rome whilst the eyes of Jesus and the Madonna are fixed on a fly which was a medieval symbol of corruption on. This again could be is interpreted as Crivelli’s attempt to represent corruption within the church. Madonna and Child, Carlo Crivelli, ca. 1480
