Someboby has added a huge list of people with connections to Machynlleth, probably to make the place look more important. Since most of these people either dont have their own wiki pages or very little connection to the place it doesnt really help! David.j.james 08:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

it could be either of these two things as well:
ma chynlleth "field of Cynlleth (a name)"
ma chynllaith "field of slaughter"

The stress was placed on the y, but given the abbreviation I figured it was probably a mistake, and moved it to the a while redirecting the IPA link. Please correct me if I'm wrong. kwami (talk) 11:13, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

TE, the stress is clearly on the a in the sound file. Anyone else hear it on the y, and syllabify it as mach.yn.lleth rather than ma.chyn.lleth? kwami (talk) 08:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

You mean the syllabification? or the stress? The dispute is whether it's mach-YN-lleth or MA-chyn-lleth. kwami (talk) 08:54, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
It's interesting, but suggests that if this name were stressed on the penult, I'd hear it on the ultima—quite the opposite of this case. Also, it says nothing about your syllabification. kwami (talk) 17:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Syllabify it whatever way you want, I just kept the syllabification already there. What the article tells us is that stress in Welsh breaks all the rules and that non-Welsh-speaking English speakers can't expect to hear it right. Since Welsh words are stressed on the second-to-last or last syllable, you can't be correct. Timeineurope (talk) 17:29, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
