MacTaggart
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MacTaggart is a sept of Clan Ross. It has its own tartan, which is predominantly green in colour. The name in Scottish Gaelic is Mac an t-Sagairt, meaning Son of the Priest. The supposed founder of the MacTaggart clan was Fearchair (Farqhuar) Mac an t-Sagairt, son of the Red Priest of Applecross, Ross-shire. He was a warrior in the 13th century. MacTaggart homelands in Scotland are Ross-shire, Islay and Kintyre (Argyll) plus Dumfries & Galloway. They may be related to the Taggarts of Northern Ireland. Some of the clan settled in the Carolinas (USA) and named themselves Priest, according to a clan historian Dr Kenneth MacTaggart of Inverness, Scotland.
