Michael Barnes, better known as Hip Hop artist M Bars, has worked hard to become the next big thing in rap. At 24 years old, the Manhattan-born lyricist has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments. Influenced by legends such as LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Eminem and Chubb Rock, M Bars possesses a smooth flow, innovative lyrics, and memorable hooks.
M Bars translates everyday experiences into universally appealing, yet street sensible music by touching on subjects such as love, politics, staying focused, having fun and living life to the fullest. His gift as a versatile songwriter was proven when, in 2006, he was personally chosen by Jay-Z, who ironically is M Bars’ biggest inspiration, to write and perform a theme song for his NBA franchise, the New Jersey Nets as documented on their official website. Sponsored by Hot 97 and Sprite, M Bars recorded his track “Goin’ Hard (Go N.E.T.S)” at Baseline Studios, a famous facility where Hip Hop classics by Outkast, Diddy, The Neptunes and Avant have all been recorded. M Bars performs during halftime at Nets games in addition to doing a host of press, charity events and appearances to promote the team. M Bars is an active member with BMI. BET News has even profiled M Bars and his unique work as the musical face of the Nets.
M Bars has been hitting the mixtape circuit and promoting his music in clubs throughout the world. His online fan community within MySpace grows tremendously each day. In March of 2007, he was selected to be a participant in the “Rawkus 50”, an elite group of MC’s which the historic record label feels will make an impact on Hip Hop.
M Bars has an abundant amount of material recorded. His tracks range from club bangers to introspective reflections on the world. The future for M Bars holds appearances in upcoming video game releases from Electronic Arts, an EP release on Burnlounge, a nationwide club tour, a series of mixtapes for the streets, collaborations with other hard-hitting Hip Hop artists such as Sticky Fingaz and product endorsements with worldwide brands.
