Mahatma (Great soul) is a well accepted title for Mohandas Gandhi and I think it is not breaching the NPOV by calling him Mahatma, since it has become his name more than his title, in India. - Kesava
The correct (or more popular) spelling of this singer is MS Subbulakshmi and NOT Subhalakshmi. - Kesava 18:35, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)
There was a smaller article posted separately under the title "M S Subbulakshmi" (i.e. without the periods). I've changed it to redirect to this one. As far as I can tell, all the same information is included in the current article except for a sentence about her mother, and the current article is certainly much better style- and grammar-wise. - Smt M.S. Subbulakshmi popularly known as MS, who is the first woman recipient of the 'Sangita Kalanidhi' title, made key contribution in popularising Carnatic music in North India.
- Sangeethakalanidhi Smt M.S. Subbulakshmi was born in Madurai on September 16th, 1916. Little Kunjamma was born in a musical family. Her mother Shanmugavadivu, a veena artist, was her guru. Her husband Late Sadasivam was her friend, philosopher and guide who raised her to this peak of success.
- Her Golden Voice is heard almost in every temple in the form of Suprabhatams and other musical pieces. Her voice impressed Mahatma Gandhi so much that he requested her to sing his favourite bhajan for him on an occasion.
- She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, which is considered to be India's greatest award, on Jan 14, 1998. She had received several awards like `Isai Vani', `Sangeet Kalanidhi' at the state level, `Padma Bhushan', `Padma Vibhushan', the Ramon Magsaysay award at national and international levels.

[edit] Transliteration of her name
I've removed the transliteration madhurai caṇmugavadivu cubbulaṭcmi as it is not a standard transliteration, and the system is not given. I suggest that the IAST transliteration may be madurei ṣanmugavidivu subbulakṣmi. But I'm not certain of this. Imc 15:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
