[edit] Difference

What is the difference between a singer-lyricist and a singer-songwriter? eLLe.Le

I think I get it now. A singer-lyricist writes lyrics and sings. A singer-songwriter writes lyrics and sings, and also writes the melody. A singer-lyricist does not write the melody. So a pop singer (such as Kelly Clarkson) who writes the lyrics (either some or all but in most cases only a verse or two) but not the melody is not a singer-songwriter. eLLe.Le

[edit] Rewrite

I have tagged the page for a complete rewrite. There is no introduction whatsoever, and a large proportion of the text on the page is almost irrelevant to the topic. --Richmeistertalk 12:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] contested statement removed

  • In recent years, songwriters have written music as well lyrics more frequently. John Lennon and Paul McCartney also set a trend for performers taking responsibility for providing their own material. {{Fact|date=December 2006}}
