Lypholize
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lypholization, Lyophilization or freeze drying is a method of removing all moisture from a material by sublimation. The frozen specimen is placed in a vessel and a vacuum is created within that vessel causing the ice to undergo a phase transition from a solid to a gas with no liquid phase. It is usually used to preserve biological materials containing proteins. Lypholization prevents the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in proteins.
