[edit] Luxeuil Air Base
Luxeuil (French: Base aérienne 116 Luxeuil Saint-Sauveur or BA 116) (ICAO: LFSX) is a medium size air base located at , near Luxeuil-les-Bains in the Franche-Comté region of France. It has 2 runways 113/293 with a length of 2433m and 038/218 with a length of 2315m.
The base is used by the Armée de l'air (French Air Force) only and hosts some operational and units:
- strike squadron 1/4 Dauphiné
- strike squadron 2/4 La Fayette
Both are equipped with the Mirage 2000N and are to be deployed in a conventional strike and in a nuclear deterrence mission. For the last reason they can be armed with mediumrange Air-Sol Moyenne Portée ASMP mssiles.
Supporting units on the base are:
- DAMS (Dépôt atelier munitions spécialisées) or Special Ammunition Storage. This unit is responsible for the hardened nuclear strike alert facilities on the base.
- Tactical Instruction Centre 00.339 Aquitaine. This is the unit in charge to instruct the strike squadrons in their mission of allweather penetration at very low level.
- Air Defence squadron 04.950 Servance. The unit is responsible for the base air defences.
- Guard detachment fusiliers commandos de l'air. This unit is responsible for the base security and ground defences.
