[edit] Popularisation
This term existed and was widely used long before Puzo wrote his famous novel. I think that the "mob culture" was popularised within Yankee pop culture, but the term lupara was in common usage prior to this.MVMosin 01:11, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Point Of View
This article provides little actual information about current legitimate uses for this style of firearm. These firearms are far more often used for defense purposes rather than mob killings and the term is often applied just the same, regardless of it's origination.
- The lupara originally is gun used for hunting. Using it against persons has its benefits because of the reasons you mention, but to say it is a defensive weapon is nonsense. It is used against people in vendettas and other conflicts. Moreover, it has nothing to do with "modern usage of the term". - Mafia Expert (talk) 20:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
