Luna Inverse is a fictional character in the Slayers anime and novels, and is the sister of the main protagonist Lina Inverse. According to the author Hajime Kanzaka, she was originally planned as the main heroine of the series, but not long before the story had started, the series Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon start to serialize and the name was also shared with the 1988 series Maju Senshi Luna Varga, so Lina Inverse was created and used as the heroine instead.

[edit] Early life

Luna was born in a small village in Zefilia, the first daughter of merchants. Her father is an ex-mercenary and her mother is an ex-sorceress. Luna and Lina's relationship is not the most affectionate, to say the least. Apparently, when they were younger, Lina would misbehave and Luna would "punish" her. The most notorious incident between the two was when Lina set up a device that projected an image of Luna while she was taking a bath. Lina is terrified of Luna ever since, and even the mention of her name sends Lina into a state of fear.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

A fragment of Ceiphied's will is lodged within Luna, and thus she is known as the Ceiphied Knight.

As the Knight of Ceiphied, Luna wields an immense amount of holy power. While we never meet Luna during the course of the novels, the author Hajime Kanzaka has confided that she may be on par with Xellos. She can cut a Dragon Slave in half with a normal (non-magically enchanced) sword, and once defeated a plasma dragon with a kitchen knife. During Slayers Try, Luna was the dragon priestess Filia Ul Copt's first choice to save the world from the prophecy of destruction. It is not made entirely clear whether or not Luna is more powerful than Lina: Although Lina is plainly terrified of her older sister, Luna thought Lina was a better candidate for the job.

Luna currently works part-time as a waitress in her hometown of Zephilia.

[edit] Dilgear

One day, Luna met and befriended the half-troll, half-beastman Dilgear when he was wandering around looking for food. She took him in and kept him as a pet, renaming him Spot.
