[edit] Character history

In The Sarah Jane Adventures, Luke is the adoptive son of Sarah Jane Smith and a creation of an alien species called the Bane. The Bane created Luke, or the "Archetype" as they called him, from thousands of samples of various people touring the Bubble Shock! factory. He contains the sum of the strengths and weaknesses of all the scanned visitors, including an exceptional eidetic memory. He has no navel as he was grown artificially, but despite this he is essentially human as he was created from a vast supply of samples of human DNA. During one tour of the factory, an alert is set off when Kelsey Harper's mobile phone disrupts the Bane Mother, awakening him; he thereafter escapes with Sarah Jane and Maria. The Bane's hold over him is finally destroyed when the factory blows up, killing the Bane Mother[1]. Later at school, Luke can't lie and has a Genius-level intellect, and he unknowingly helps the Slitheen family[2]. Luke also tries to master being funny but can't quite do it[3]. Later Luke sees a news report on a family searching for their son, Ashley, who has been missing for five months, brings a shock; for Ashley looks exactly like Luke. Luke has a poor sense of balance and is a dreadful skateboarder[4].
