The LSM-1 Class Landing Ship Medium commenced with the construction of LSM-1 on 5 May 1944 and continued on through the construction and commissioning of LSM-500 on 17 May 1945.

This class was replaced, starting with LSM(R)-501 on 24 March 1945, with the LSM(R)-501 Class Landing Ship which contained rocket launching equipment.
