Talk:Lowell House

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's an item for possible inclusion--what do people think? Before the houses were homogenised by nanny-state randomisation, many houses had reputations: Kirkland was full of jocks, Adams full of gays, Mather was boring, North House was full of nerds and sociopaths. Lowell had the reputation of attracting wealthy foreigners, affectionatley known as "Eurotrash" or "Eurofags". (This was in the late 70s / early 80s; you probably couldn't say things like that at Harvard now that Orwellian speech rules have apparently come into effect.) Would anyone throw a wobbly if we added that information?

Also the tradtion of "High Table" should be mentioned, when selected seniors got to dress up and dine on tablecloths with some invited luminary and then repair to the SCR for sherry. (Do they still do this?) Many a time I carted home half-finished bottles of cheap red Spanish wine after my shift, which were later consumed with Oreo cookies from box lunches that were ordered but hadn't been picked up.

I'll await comments before putting these in article
