Lowyat.NET (or LYN in short) is a Malaysian tech enthusiast community, started in 2002 by Vijandren Ramadass.[citation needed] Since then, it has grown into one of Malaysia's most popular websites,[citation needed] comprising a main site featuring technology related news and articles and an active forum community with over 125,000 registered members and 5,500,000 posts. Lowyat.NET now features technology review articles, and has recently launched sister sites such as "Multiplay" (featuring gaming news), "Shrine" (featuring Japanese anime/manga news), "Shutter" (featuring photography news) and "Wheels" (featuring automotive news).

By March 30 2008, LYN's forum had already reached over 125,000 members with over 5.5 million posted messages, and is ranked by Alexa as #20 of most viewed sites in Malaysia [1] and #1 under Chat and Forums section for Computer and Internet search result in Malaysia [2].

  • April 3rd 2004 - LYN forum's biggest fraud history by conman Mohd Sharilwan Bin Mohd Sidek (PowerEdge / BiuBiu).
    * Having running off with an estimated worth of RM40 000++ by the BBA 9800XT 256MB & 9700PRO bulk that he had organized, he is still running around freely without being prosecuted. In total, it has been reported that he had received an estimated worth of RM70 000++ all together of his conning activities with other Malaysian forums..

  • September 28th 2007 - Lowyat.NET received a 'Notice to Take Down' letter addressed to its owner & administrator via e-mail from Solicitors Lilian & Associates acting on behalf of Kenny Wong (forum nickname: kennywongyf) and Chris Lau (gtoracer1) of 'Mobile Care Stop', a mobile phone retail shop in Subang Square, Subang Jaya, Selangor. The letter threatens to join the administrator and owner of Lowyat.NET in a High Court action for damages of the thread that Goh Chee Phen (AntonioKane) about the unsatisfied service or Mobile Care Stop.[citation needed]


  • Mar 24th 2008 - At 12:47 PM (Malaysian time), a member of the group forum admin, wKkaY, had announced that two moderator accounts were compromised in solicitations for cash and Paypal funds.[citation needed]
