An infobox for the original Rose Royce recording of the song was requested at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Missing_encyclopedic_articles/List_of_notable_songs/8.
while I don't doubt that Madonna's cover of the original probably sold more copies than any other, I don't think that that in itself warrants the publicity stunt of dedicating such a large portion of the article to her version, video and memoirs, etc., which should probably be included in her own article - with as many links as you like. The photo should thus be of the originally released single, or possibly thumbnails of each and every one of the covers. I will not make any changes until feedback given as I don't want to enter into any kind of serious in-fighting as can be seen at far too many music article pages.83.191.28.62 13:36, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

- Actually I doubt Madonna's version sold the most. Rose Royce reached no.2 in the UK with this song in 1978 (back when singles had to actually sell something to get in the charts). It was also a big hit in other countries. Jimmy Nail reached no.3 with it in 1985. Madonna's version wasn't even released that widely. The bias of the article towards it being primarily about Madonna is pretty appalling and whilst her version deserves a mention, it should not take over the article the way it currently does. I've cut out most of the information about the music video she did for it because it is totally irrelevant to a Wiki article.79.66.95.234 (talk) 17:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] PR efforts
Rather than heeding the templates, content is becoming increasingly more blatently an advertisement. I suggest - off the top of my head - doing a disambiguation with obviously the original version under this article, mentioning briefly the cover versions, and other people's what-have-yous elsewhere. Constructive feedback, anyone? Regards, --Technopat 21:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. The article seems to be all about Madonna's cover--not the song itself. If there is one picture, it should be of the original, if possible. Cstokesrees (talk) 15:15, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
