Louisiana metropolitan areas

The U.S. state of Louisiana has eight Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Of Louisiana's 64 parishes, 29 are classified as Metropolitan by the U.S. Census Bureau. The total combined population of all of Louisiana's Metro areas in 2000 was 3,327,848, which was 74.5% of the state's total population. In a 2006 population estimate, the total combined population of the Metro areas was 3,349,956, which was 74.1% of the state's total population.
The following table lists population figures for those metropolitan areas, in rank of population. Population figures are as of the 2004 U.S. Census estimates.

- The New Orleans Metropolitan Area was heavily affected by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. Though approximately 200,000 of the Metro Area's residents have yet to return to live full-time, they remain citizens of their respective parishes.
