LoudRadio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
LoudRadio was an Active/Hard Rock radio network which broadcasted from 1997 to 2001. The network was one of the first commercial internet radio formats, later to be syndicated over terrestrial radio. LoudRadio was the brainchild of veteran rockradio programmer Guy Giuliano and former talent from the ill-fated Z-Rock affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona.
On-Air jocks were referred to as the radio rat-pack, such as veteran format personalities Madd Maxx Hammer and The G-Ster. The hard rock radio format became very popular online, with an eclectic mix of artists such as Korn, Rage Against The Machine, Pantera, Motorhead, Slayer, Powerman 5000, Rob Zombie, UFO, and Judas Priest.
In 1998, LoudRadio's owner GBS Radio was purchased by bay area internet music firm eMusic.com, which was headed by Kent Keifer. eMusic took LoudRadio and sister network BombRadio and bundled them with hundreds of syndicated online radio networks.
In 1999, LoudRadio landed its first broadcast station via KLOD-FM 100.1 in Flagstaff, AZ. KLOD became the first commercial radio station in the U.S. to carry an internet originated radio network. This earned the affiliate attention, and was featured in a front page article in the Arizona Daily Sun.
The LoudRadio crew also hosted a weekly rock music video show called Crank It Up! on UPN affiliated television stations across the U.S.
eMusic eventually spun-off Kiefer's internet radio group to form the Audio On Demand Corporation, which pulled the plug on the radio division in 2001.
