Hey, Thanks for stopping by. I am taking this course -- The Future of Music with Isiah Jackson at Harvard Extension -- for a couple of reasons; 1. My musical education was strictly of the Eurocentric/Highbrow variety and I have long felt the need/desire to update and Americanize the repertoire with which I am familiar and comfortable and 2. I had a wonderful adventure with our professor once upon a time and hoped this would be another. So far, I am enjoying the class and am very happy not to have to write the papers, although as a teacher I am very pleased that Prof. Jackson has such high standards of writing and makes a point to recommending books on style. Although behind in the reading I find the history of popular, malleable music into elitist, rigid music very interesting. It has made me realize how I was trained to be inflexible I am in my thinking, treating "great music" with reverence and more or less ignoring everything else.
