Lorne Mitton

Lorne Mitton is the former mayor of Moncton, New Brunswick, elected in May 2004. His predecessor was Brian Murphy. He was born and raised in Moncton, and studied at the University of Toronto. He has worked with organizations in the transportation industry including CN Rail, the Atlantic Provinces Transportation Commission, and the National Transportation Agency of Canada.
Prior to being elected Mayor, Mr. Mitton served the city as a Councillor At Large from 1998 to 2004 on Moncton City Council. During that time he was twice elected Deputy Mayor by his fellow Councillors.
Lorne Mitton has announced that he will not be re-offering in the next municipal election. Mitton will officially retire in May of 2008. He will be succeeded by mayor-elect George LeBlanc, who will be sworn into office on May 26, 2008.
