Lorenzo Ferrero (b. 1951) is a contemporary Italian composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works and music for the theatre. He was initially self-taught. From 1969 to 1972, he studied composition with Massimo Bruni and Enore Zaffiri at the Conservatorio di Musica di Torino (Turin music conservatory). He then earned a degree in aesthetics at the Università di Torino in 1974, with a thesis on John Cage.

Lorenzo Ferrero did research on electronic music at the experimental studio of Bourges in 1972-3 and at the Musik-Dia-Licht Film Gallery in Munich in 1974.

Lorenzo Ferrero has received commissions for works performed at numerous festivals and institutions. His particular interest is the theatre. He is also an active conductor of opera and other arts events. He has served as artistic director of the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago (from 1980-84); the Unione Musicale in Turin (1983-87); the Arena di Verona (1991-94); the Musica 2000 fair; the Venice Biennale, and (since 1999) the Festa della Musica, a showcase of classical, jazz, and world music, held in Milan.

In addition to the works listed below and other original self-contained musical works, including choral and vocal works and pieces for solo piano, for organ and for harpsichord, in 1994 Ferrero completed the orchestration of the third version of La Rondine by Giacomo Puccini. He has also written incidental music for stage productions.
